This course is an introduction to Online Journalism, an

inescapable reality in the present and future of reporting and

news writing. Its main goal is to prepare students for this

current professional environment. At the end of the semester,

students should have a basic understanding of the necessary

skills to produce news for the web, including text, audio, photo

slideshows and video clips. However, this course will not focus

primarily on technology. Students will learn about the software

as a means to an end, in the same way writers use pens and

notebooks to gather information for a print story. The focus will

not be on the tools but rather on the content that creates an

effective news website. We will explore how online journalism is

different from broadcast or print and study issues specific to

new media.
