BERLIN— If you’re looking for the life of luxury while visiting Berlin, then the Hotel Adlon will, without a doubt, fulfill your wishes.

From its exquisite guestrooms and award-winning restaurants, generosity and attention to detail are what make this five-star hotel a must-stay. With its marvelous view of Brandenburg Gate, the Adlon caters to every last detail you may need while visiting Berlin.

The Adlon, with the distinctive green roof, is on the famous Unter den
Linden just across from Brandenburg Gate (Staff photo).

The hotel reopened in 1997. World War II and a tragic fire closed the hotel in 1945 and, under the Communists, the destroyed hotel remained closed.

Even in its original form and structure, the luxury facility was ahead of its time in terms of service, technique and decoration.

It was, and still is, the place to see and the place to be seen.

Its guest book reads like a Who’s Who in hotel lingo. From Michael Jackson hanging his baby off the balcony of his executive suite to President Bush, the hotel has had its share of high-class visitors.

The Adlon’s 302 luxurious rooms and 73 suites display an array of exquisite designs, materials and colors that give each room its own charm and unique flavor.

Whether it is the personal shoe-shining service each night or the dog sitting that provides your pup with distinguished walks on the renowned Unter den Linden, the Adlon offers services you might not even find at home.

In each room, color groups of blue-beige, red-beige, and golden-beige create an atmosphere of harmony and homeliness. Dressed with exclusive interior design and classical-modern style furniture, the rooms make you feel as if you were staying with royalty.

With the floors covered in noble oak parquet, the walls with high-quality cherry wood and the oversized walk-in-closets, the Adlon, crafts an atmosphere of the highest extravagance.

The distinguished interior isn’t the only thing boasting first-class service; each of the Adlon’s rooms is outfitted with a variety of items tailored to meet your needs.

A prime example of the first class service, is present with an LCD-screen, integrated into the wall, high-speed internet access, an extra telephone in the bathroom, CD and DVD player, voice mail, a personal safe, mini-bar and heated towel racks.

Though, if you find yourself yearning for something else, the concierge will stop at nothing to meet you’re wishes. They offer anything from toothpaste and cufflinks to magnifying glasses and binoculars for people watching down the famous shopping avenue.

At the Adlon, though, service means little if you aren’t comfortable in your bed. The hotel offers a la carte pillows and blankets for your comfort. Providing anything from a resisting horsehair pillow to a comfy duvet made of biological corn. And for those suffering with allergies the hotel provides an anti-allergic synthetic fiber.

The exquisite service doesn’t stop in the bedroom; the luxurious bathrooms are equipped with baths salts, steam showers and heated towel racks. Rose, sandalwood, peach, pine and apple, are just a few examples of the ten calming aromas you have to choose from.

The Adlon does not only think of the different nationalities of the guests, offering for example, in the restaurants, international menus in eight different languages, but has even thought of the different cultures and religions, having Bibles in every room and Islamic praying mats on request.

And if you were worried about leaving your room for your daily work-out, treadmills and stair-machines can be placed in your room for your convenience.

Another very convenient service provided by the Adlon is its pet-friendly atmosphere. Four-legged friends are greeted at the hotel with a basket filled with bones, toys, water, and a food dish.

For those who want to stay fit, the Adlon offers a spacious fully equipped Roman style spa with a sauna, steam shower, whirlpool and all the equipment one might need to stay trim.

The positive response from the public to the Adlon quality is amply demonstrated by the innumerable prizes the hotel has won for its excellent performance. The hotel has been named “Hotel of the Century” by Time Magazine and “Best luxury Hotel in Berlin” and “Hotel of the Year” by Der Feinschmecker magazine.

The Adlon kitchen has also reaped sensational awards; just two years after it opened, the hotel’s chef Karlheinz Hauser and his team received their first Michelin Star for “Lorenz Adlon, the Adlon’s fine dining restaurant.

The culinary world at the Adlon also boasts two other exceptional restaurants, the “Restaurant Quarre” with its fabulous view of the Brandenburg Gate, and the casual “Adlon Stube.

Until Aug. 31, 2004, rooms can still be booked for an attractive rate, if you would like to stay in luxury while visiting Berlin.

The Comfortable executive room cost, for single occupancy, 227 Euros, for double occupancy, 277 Euros per night. In the eloquent deluxe rooms the rate for one person is 255 Euros, and for two persons 305 Euros per night. The use of the Adlon spa is included in those prices.
